My sister is due to have a baby tomorrow, and several months ago she picked out the fabric and pattern. The original pattern was just NOT working, so I scraped that, and improvised a bit.
The back is some super soft minky, at my sister's request. I normally don't sew with minky because it's a hassle. It rolls and sheds, and it's hard to keep straight, but I had quite a long discussion with a very helpful lady at the quilt store about how best to sew with minky. I had been doing it all wrong. I followed her instructions and it worked just fine. It took a little more effort to push it through my machine, but it turned out great. Even Ryan commenting on how pretty it was.
Here it is in full. The fabric line is Dainty Blossoms by Riley Blake. I used a jelly roll quilt, sewing 3 stripes together. Cut squares and assembled with every other matching blocks. The border is 2.5" of some neutral brown leaf pattern from Jo-Ann's and the binding is from Simply Color by Vanessa & Co.

This quilt would've come together super fast if I had done it all in one day. I'm usually pretty scatter-brained with my quilts because I usually make them up or alter the pattern as I go, and then I need to get extra fabric or measure and cut what I have, it's a process.
Or, it just takes a really, really long time to sew :)
Like my constellation quilt.
If you follow me on instagram (@brwneyes525) you have seen me post about this quilt since I got the fabric.
It's my first triangle quilt and it took a bit of getting used to - compared to sewing square quilts. I cut almost 400 triangles. But it is beautiful and worth the work.
Well I'm happy to announce the top is done! I'm heading today to get the backing for it.
This quilt I'm making just for me. Most of my quilts end up in Zoe's room (she currently has 4 of my quilts on her bad) or in the family room or in someone else's house. This one is going to stay by my side of the bed or my desk. Just for me to snuggle with.
I hope you have a great President's Day!
I'll be back tomorrow to share some sneak peeks of some upcoming projects.
XOXO,
Holly & Co.
PS. I think I might have a giveaway soon. Would you rather a small quilt (baby size) or a big box of scrappy stuff? Leave a comment and vote.
